Trackspeed1 UK’ is one of the most universally successful training groups for sprinters in the world. Over a period spanning four decades it has continually churned out athletes who have graduated to elite level having entered with humble beginnings. Founded and run throughout that time by Head Coach, John V. Powell MBE, it is a set-up that prides itself in developing talent at its Academy level, as well as managing, leading and developing talent at the very top end of the sport from major international championships to the Commonwealth and Olympic Games themselves.
There are many groups who are lucky enough to boast world class athletes in abundance, and huge populations at all the major events, but few if any operate the all-embracing approach of ‘Trackspeed1 UK’. Based at Crystal palace National Sports centre, South East London, athletes have entered the squad with 100m times that have improved from well over 11 seconds to under 10.1, as well as over 12 seconds to sub-11. It’s record over the years reads like a who’s who of track and field, with a glittering array of honours ranging from the Olympic Games to County Championship medalists.
John V. Powell MBE has emerged in recent years as one of the world’s most experienced and successful coaches in his field. Not only has he nurtured athletes at senior level through to the very top elite end of the sport, he has seen young athletes through from grass roots to the top echelons of their discipline. He has been hailed for his achievements by coaches far and wide ranging from Europe to America, Australia and the Far East. In 2013 he received the ultimate accolade in being awarded the MBE for Services to Athletics as a coach by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, London.
A family man with three daughters, John’s dedication to the sport has been massive over the years, securing partnerships that have made the Trackspeed1 UK brand glow. Links with Adidas UK, and agreements with local physio’ clinics, not to mention deals with coaches and organisations abroad, are all a result of John’s relentless networking all over the globe, never mind massive personal investment over many many years since he himself was a starry-eyed teen training under the late Charles Elliott.
